Bell Restoration

The bells have been rung for the last four hundred years at Herne. The oldest bell dates from 1621. There are six bells in th tower in a wooden frame. There has been no work done to the frame for over a hundred years and it now moves when the bells are rung, making them difficult to ring. Plans for restoring the bells have been discussed for some years. After discussions and reports, it is now hoped to proceed with restoration of the bells, using the old frame, which has historical interest, and new fittings, next year. It is also planned to add two new bells to augment the ring to eight bells. Fund raising is continuing and contributions to the project are welcomed (please contact the bell ringers for details). Further details will be posted on the website as the project continues.

Bellringers

Campanology (Bellringing) is the Art and Science of ringing bells using a rope and wheel. It is a distinctly "English" pastime, originating in the British Isles, but in the last couple of hundred years has spread to the colonies, and can be found as far afield as New Zealand and Texas

The Bells are rung regularly for Sunday Service at 09:45 am and at Weddings

Practice night is on Wednesday from 8:00 - 9:00 pm
